Do you ever think about how goods and other cargo are transported from place to place? Well, it’s interesting to know the entire process, also termed ‘shipping’. You probably ran across the term when planning to contact a shipping company. The hauling industry is larger and more complicated than one would think. It’s an interesting process as most every product bought or sold involves shipping. Transferring goods takes place for business and personal sections. Numerous types of cargo is shipped locally, nationally and internationally, making the freight market the largest and most active today.

Basically there are three types of chipping which are sea, land and air. Ground freight is the mode that is most popular because it forms the initial stages for shipping through sea and air. Local hauls are done by land while the interstate and international shipments are by sea and air. Ground hauling is more cost effective but for fast delivery nothing compares to sea and air. Could you imagine the skill and sophistication needed by the shipping industry to ensure the millions of shipments are made at the correct times and places. Organization and responsibility is the main feature of the industry.

Shipping, a medieval word when transportation by water was the only means for inter-state shipping of goods. Air medium had not yet bee developed. It’s interesting that after years of air transportation became busy, ships continually rule as the popular choice of transportation in the freight industry. Special and advanced navy ships were developed to facilitate movement of cargo. The bulk of international trading is done by sea. In the US the Merchant Marines do all shipping and also functions, if the need arises, as a unit for war.

Shipping refers to the transportation of freight. Freight is goods or other products meant for commercial profit. A fact that is obvious is the efficient shipping sector of any country is dependent on the transportation efficiency. Transportation is completely depended upon by the shipping industry.
